VINICUNCA 7 COLORS MOUNTAIN

The Rainbow Mountains of Peru, also known as Vinicunca, are impressive and can be seen on the spectacular Ausangate trek. The Ausangate mountain itself is considered a sacred mountain (or mountain spirit) by local Peruvians and is the deity of Cusco. Since pre-Inca times the mountain has been a place of worship and offerings and this tradition continues today.

Most trips that allow you to see the Rainbow Mountains require a hike of at least 6 days. That has changed with this new itinerary. We have designed this hike so that it can be done as a day trip!

On this hike you will see picturesque villages, beautiful adobe houses, herds of llamas and alpacas and have magnificent views of the Ausangate Glacier (6,385m / 20,945ft), the highest mountain in the Cusco region.

We will pick you up early from your hotel in Cusco and set off on a journey through the South Valley. The trip to the trailhead in Quesiuno (4,326m / 14,189ft) takes 3 hours. Once we reach the Inkintuyoc bridge, we will have a continental breakfast with fuel.

Then we start our hike, following a beautiful stream. They will be immediately surprised by literally herds of alpacas and llamas. We will have consistent views of the Ausangate mountain. We will walk through the villages and interact with local residents. We will stop for a luxury lunch along the way.

Back on the road, we find more traditional elements of this trip. This includes potato fields and unique wildlife. We have the prospect of seeing chinchillas and vicuñas. Vicuñas are the only non-domesticated animal of the llama family in Peru. Many red mountains are also a highlight of this part of the hike.

After a total walk of about 5 hours, we finally reached our destination, what we came to see .... the Rainbow Mountains (5,020m / 16,466ft). After you get over the shock of its beauty, you will have time to explore the area. They will have time to take photos and soak up the surroundings. We will spend approximately 30 minutes at the top.

At this point, it's time to go back down. We walked down the hill the way we came. The walk will take 4 to 5 hours. Our private van will be waiting for us when we return.
